Requirements

If you are aged 24 or under and play an orchestral instrument, come out and audition for the HPYO!

Admission to the HPYO is based on the playing ability of the candidate. The purpose of the audition is to see what level you are at before being accepted into the orchestra. A position held the previous year does not necessarily guarantee a position in the following year.

New in 2013/14, the HPYO is composed of a junior and senior ensemble.  The Junior Orchestra is designed for intermediate strings and winds, with limited experience ensemble playing, and studying privately at the RCM gr. 6/Suzuki Book 5 level.

Musicians auditioning for one ensemble may be invited into the other depending on their level of playing ability.

Audition requirements for acceptance into the HPYO Senior Orchestra are:

  • One solo or etude of your choice (no longer than 3 min.).
  • Two excerpts (unless otherwise indicated) as determined by the HPYO and listed below.
  • Some scales may be requested at audition.

Audition requirements for acceptance into the HPYO Junior Orchestra are:

  • Two scales as requested by audition panel.
  • Two short contrasting excerpts of your choice.
  • Some sightreading may be requested at audition.
It is highly recommended that all musicians go over the audition excerpts with their private teacher.  If you do not currently have a private teacher, we would be happy to recommend one for you so that you may be best prepared for your audition.

Musicians must provide their own accompanist.
