Requirements

Players must be between 8 and 24 years of age and play an orchestral instrument.

Admission to the HPYO is based on the playing ability of the candidate. The purpose of the audition is to determine the musician’s proficiency level to ensure that the music-making challenge is pedagogically appropriate for every participant. Following a successful audition, candidates are accepted into either the Concert Orchestra or the Philharmonic Orchestra. A position held the previous year does not necessarily guarantee a position in the following year. Philharmonic Orchestra members may also be invited to act as Mentors in our Leadership program through participation in both symphonic groups.

Audition requirements for acceptance into the HPYO Concert Orchestra and Philharmonic Orchestra are attached below.

It is highly recommended that all musicians go over the audition excerpts with their private teacher.

Accompanists are not necessary, but should you require one, applicants must provide their own.
